What is a Pedaleur de Charme?

The true cycling enthusiast will have heard of it: “Pedaleur de Charme”. But what exactly is it and where does it come from?

Origin of Pedaleur de Charme

“Pedaleur de Charme” was the Swiss cyclist's nickname Hugo Koblet. Mr Koblet won the 1950 Giro and the 1951 Tour de France. Hugo excelled with his qualities as a rider, but also with his appearance. He had a beautiful style and always looked well groomed. To keep it that way, he even carried a comb in his back pocket during the race. Logically, Hugo was well liked by women.

The nickname was given to him by French singer, actor and big cycling fan Jacques Grello.

The modern era

These days, it is a term used for well groomed riders. Riders who look well groomed, have a handsome bike and wear the right cycling gear. The perfect example of this is our very own Dylan van Baarle - especially after his victory in Paris-Roubaix, he was massively referred to by the media as the ‘Pedaleur de Charme’.

This site would love to help you - like Hugo and Dylan - get well-groomed on the road at an affordable price! And we'll also give you tips on how to become a true Pedaleur de Charme yourself.
